Latest Updates from Our Project:

Possible Solutions?
almost 9 years ago – Fri, Feb 12, 2016 at 11:03:54 PM

Hello everyone, Thanks for your patience and for also doing a great job so far with the proofreading of Battle Royale and Super Fairytale Fighters’ rulebooks. Looking forward to more input and questions!

The past few weeks I tried to explore different options and ways to solve this financial situation for the Battle Royale, Dragon Tides, Rumplestiltskin games and Sacred40 that are currently stuck, sitting in their hubs. For the obvious choices, I looked into loans from various banks as well as investors. It isn’t a surprise that because they do not see actual revenue and that this industry isn’t something they are familiar with, the risks outweigh any benefit I try to present them. Funds raised, product at hand (inventory), and even personal assets are not even entertaining them, so those options are out. But, I’ll still keep options open on this front and try a couple more people.

Given this, here are a few more ideas with pros and cons. None of these are final answers, just ideas to start a discussion to hear your thoughts. If other ideas come about that works, we’ll work with it.

Currently, I only know the final total I’ll need between all campaigns including fees/processing and shipping (after piecing together the many invoices and manifests). What I do not know is how it’s separated and if any of it includes estimated warehouse storage fees or items that would not be a part of what I need if we can get the funding quickly. This is something I have been requesting for a couple of weeks now, but without any response. I just know the total they are invoicing me for is for $45k under the title: FT1, FT2, DT Backer Shipping (meaning Battle Royale, Rumplestiltskin, Sacred40 Re-issues, and Dragon Tides to Europe along with anyone who got lost in between).

With a better breakdown, then I can figure if it’s best to separate the ways to raise shipping funds between campaigns and I could see how much it would cost to ship per hub to see if I can do it in increments that way or maybe if I could ship in bulks of 500 units per hub at a time. It could be Chinese New Year or it could be they’re not being responsive, but I will continue to try to get this billing breakdown.

In the meantime, let’s try to figure out some other possibilities. Note that the following might be either great ideas, terrible ideas, or ok ideas with some merit. Please take in with a grain of salt (keep an open mind).

Scenario 1: Kickstart our Inventory

We could run a Kickstarter for only items that we have in our inventory (Battle Royale, Martial Arts: The Card Game, Rumplestiltskin, Sacred40 Minis, and Dragon Tides).

We could then have tiers specifically for Battle Royale Shipping and Dragon Tides Shipping so anyone who would like to pitch in, can put funds towards the project they originally backed. People who want to also get in on the items we have (and possibly be a part of campaign stretch goals, knowing that it will be a long wait) can do so.

The downside is that this would be a very unorthodox Kickstarter and there may not be a good chance we can hit our goal.

Scenario 2: Battle Royale: Re-Mastered Campaign

Basically redo a campaign for Battle Royale in the forefront, with the intention of raising money for shipping for Battle Royale and Dragon Tides.

The intent for the campaign in the forefront will be to use any extra money to reprint cards that had mistakes as well as the rulebook and any of the promo material from the first campaign (facebook/promo character cards). The art and layout has been done so it’s a matter of printing them.

We wouldn’t have to worry about any other production since Battle Royale is already here and in the hubs. So new backers wouldn’t have to wait for the games to be shipped. The Re-mastered material would be sent to you separately, of course, but shipping and printing will be very low because it isn’t a lot of material (and they’re all paper/card stock).

Scenario 3: Indie Go Go it

With Indie Go Go, we could basically put up our shipping tiers and try to raise funds from volunteers as well as offering up anything in our inventory for purchase.

The positive about Indie Go Go is that even if you don’t hit your goal, you get the funds. The only fear is that if we don’t hit the funds (let’s say we only get 1/3 of what we need), then what?

Plus, there’s not a huge audience for Tabletop on Indie Go Go unless we rally people there, which in all honesty, this will not happen. Still it’s worth a thought.

Scenario 4: The ‘Beat’ Engine

This was the original gameplay mechanics for Dragon Tides which was to be converted to Fairytale Games as a Dungeon Crawler series. I had brainstormed and playtested a Fairytale Games version that includes 130 standard sized cards, 6 double-sided map boards, 40 Tarot sized cards, Tokens, and 10 dice.

The game was to use your Sacred40 minis in any combination against 1 Faction (ie. The Horror Show) as you play through their story. So basically think 6 Stories with 3 chapters each. The game concept has Dragon Tides elements but focuses on quick battles that utilize your characters’ abilities as you go up against minions, henchmen and the final boss in a 1-5 player game (PVP or PVE).

Obviously this was never produced or offered, but just like Scenario 2, we could do a campaign but concentrate on this (because the cost is low) and try to create a surplus of new backers and those who want to volunteer to pay a shipping tier, to raise money for both. Of course the added risk is this extra item to produce, but the pro is that it also gives people a new way to use their minis for both Fairytale Games and Dragon Tides.

If we were to do it this way, we would offer a tier for just this game and another for the game with the sacred40 as a deluxe game bundle. Since the minis are already produced and in the warehouses, the only thing we would worry about would be the low cost of production and shipping that game to each hub. But during this time, we would have already raised the money to ship off the current invoices of products that are now in the warehouse.

If this is something you’re interested in, I’ll put together a rulesheet summary so you can see if it’ll be exciting to new backers.

Scenario 5: Re-Open the Pledge Managers

I can do this as well, but it would either be that GBG would have to restructure their system and add both Dragon Tides and Battle Royale items and logistics (the one I used from them was for the minis campaign) or I would re-open the Dragon Tides backerkit and add the Battle Royale items there myself. Both options would take quite a while but it can be done if you feel this is the best option. Though, I probably won’t entertain the GBG pledge manager until I’m for sure things will run smoothly for all of us.

Other Ideas?

Still coming up with other plausible ideas and as mentioned, with the information I need about the breakdown for shipping, I might have some better options. What do you think? Do any of these ideas spur new ones? I’m not married to any of the mentioned ideas so please be open about them because I want this to be a consensus.

As well, I have a couple of appointments with people that may be able to help outside of these ideas. I’ll let you all know how that goes as well. And I’ll keep checking in so we can all throw ideas around, but at least with the above 5 scenarios, we have a starting point.

A Fairytale Games Update
almost 9 years ago – Sat, Feb 06, 2016 at 09:30:22 PM

Hi Everyone,

It's been a very grueling week, but I'm at the very least narrowing solutions down. There's a few people I need to speak with early next week, but by then I should have options to lay out in front of you for discussion.

Apologies in advance for this update being a Fairytale Games one. Since I posted this in the other two campaigns, I there may be backers here who might miss this message. The regular Dragon Tide update to continue in the next one!

Fairytale Games: Battle Royale Rulebook

As a few backers have suggested, it would be a good idea to start being proactive. Although I'll be releasing Super Fairytale Fighters 2 PNPs first (to also get your proofreading help on), I do want to also get you started on reviewing the Battle Royale rulebook.

In hindsight, I should have had you all review it first, but because I wanted to rush the games to print sooner than later, I only had a few eyes outside of internal look at them briefly. So what you'll review is the rulebook in the actual game. What I want to do, upon you receiving your games, is to also have an updated PDF rulebook that would clearly explain how to play Fairytale Games: Battle Royale.

I understand without the game in front of you, some of the ruling may be confusing. That's exactly what I want you to catch me on. I basically want the rulebook to be understandable at face value and is easy to navigate through. So please ask any questions you have about rules and what they're supposed to mean. Don't hold back because I do understand that it's not a pride thing, but for the greater good of making the game even better.

The future goal, after the financial hump, would be to reprint the rulebook and any cards that have errors again and give them to all backers, so you can have a perfect game. But until then, here's the rules:

To help with edits, I converted the rulebook to a Google Doc (just text) so you can leave comments for editing. If you're looking at the Google Doc first, you'll need to refer back to the actual rulebook to see the graphic examples.

3 Renders, Solo/Co-Op, Questions, and Shipping
almost 9 years ago – Sat, Jan 30, 2016 at 11:09:32 PM

Hi Everyone,

First off, I’m really excited that some of you playing Dragon Tides and are having fun trying out the missions. One thing to note is that the Tutorial scenario is just to understand the mechanics of the game, but it’s not a great example of the overall experience. The tutorial has you just doing a one on one fight with another player, but the REAL core of the games is in the missions. I would suggest if you’re more than a casual tabletop gamer, then just dive into the first scenario of either Movie books. If you have any questions with the gameplay, be sure to reach out to us on BGG (Board Game Geek) and the gameplay designers will be able to answer your questions!

Missing Renders

There were several of you who mentioned that there were a few renders you hadn’t seen yet. It’ll probably be a good idea to update our website with the complete set of renders for easy accessibility. Until then, here are the 3 requests we’ve received to post:

Shipping Issues

I’m going to just dive in. A lot of you are wondering what is going on with this project as well as Battle Royale, the Minis Campaign and where we are with shipping. Though my absence on these boards seem to have been ill will, I assure you it is not.

Currently, Dragon Tides, Battle Royale, Sacred 40 Re-issues and Rumplestiltskin are at their correct hubs. Meaning, we have the correct inventory for the US, CAN, AUS, and EU to be shipped out. As our shipping partners on these items, Greenbrier Games can confirm this. Shipping manifests, or “the list” as we’ve been calling it had been created and sent out. Everything is in order up until this point. I can’t imagine anyone needing additional time to process the list either. But, we are now at a standstill. As you might have guessed, we’ve hit a roadblock, a serious one.

To the point, because of the previous shipping errors, plus all the current shipping waves and delays, we were sent the new invoices with amounts outstanding that are just too much. Now I’m very sure upon hearing this, some will try to twist this situation and say that funds were used for a different project or once again, question whether this project is a scam. I’m going to just tell you straight that this is not so. We have every intention of delivering you everything this project promised and though it may take even more time, it will happen. For fraudulent claims, and I’ve said it before, this would have been the most expensive and ridiculous scam if it were true. So no, it is not. Unfortunately, the initial wave of games and Sacred40 minis are stuck in the warehouse until we solve this problem. Needless to say, I’ve been scrambling the last few weeks for a solution. To answer some comments about running away, that claim is so far from the truth.

I’m not sure if I can get an immediate fix, but having already created the games, manufactured them, and shipped them to the hubs, it would be nuts not to finish this wave. The plan is to ship them by groups, based one how much I can raise myself until everything is out the door. There’s a misconception that there’s a lot of money just floating around from the campaign. The reality is that everything has gone into the project and when that was gone, I’ve been pumping my own funds into it up until now. But this last round of invoices…. There’s no way I can just make magic happen. I have to earn it again and that is what I am doing. It might happen within a month, it may not. But at the very least, I have a few options I'm working on at the moment. And as for the Stretch Goal and other items, you will continue to see more progress week by week.

On an even more serious matter, I completely understand that many of you are upset, confused or want to vent your anger. I truly understand that and of course, even with my best intentions and physical evidence that a product does exist, I do not fault anyone for saying or commenting in any way. BUT…..what I will not tolerate, is that two of my team members have received threats on their social media as well as phone calls to their families by angry backers, one of which was a death threat. As upset as anyone is, please do not go this route no matter where you believe this campaign is going.

Specifically Dragon Tides

As I mentioned above, though we tried to get all the games out, because of the most current shipping invoices, we are stuck as is. Where most of AUS, CAN and US have received their games, some of you from these regions as well as EU aren’t able to be shipped until I can take care of this outstanding balance. I am going to try a few avenues to get this done because it’s painful for all of us having product just sit in the hubs. Once I can find some sort of solution quickly, I will discuss them with you all, so that I can hear your opinions if they are viable and smart decisions to overcome this immediate hurdle. I know the situation is pretty dire at this moment, but we will get through this. It's not an option.

Jade Dragon and More

I’m not as worried for these at this moment, as we are still in development of this content. All the renders have been complete and are with the manufacture and all the game’s card layouts are done while gameplay testing has not stopped. All 4 prequel scenes are also complete, map tiles and all. Maybe a good idea would be to slowly release PNPs as well, so that those who do not have their copies, can play. As well, I can release new content so that you can also playtest to make sure things are as balanced as we say they are. I look forward to a solution to the above mentioned shipping issues that would also ensure that these come out shortly after.

Base Clip On Tabs and Showdown Cards

Another question that was brought up, was whether or not we decided not to use the base clips to hold tokens. We are still going to use them and they will be included with the free Henchmen stretch goal box in both the 30mm base and 40mm base sizes. So when those are finally in your hands, you can incorporate them with Dragon Tides and its expansions.

So... showdown cards were a flub on the box. There should only by 5 sets of showdown cards, not 8 since there are up to 5 players for the game.

Solo and Co-Op Mode

It does exist! We have the rulings for them that I will post onto our website soon. We've playtested them before but it was just brought to our attention that 2 scenarios had some weird glitch with the AI. We didn't know if it was a one time thing or if it's persistant so we currently have a playtest group who is making sure the rules work for EVERY scenario one last time before I post the AI. Probably within the next 2 weeks, you'll see a link to the AI rules for Solo and Co-op modes.

New Shipping Update!
about 9 years ago – Wed, Dec 09, 2015 at 10:17:41 PM

Hello Everyone,

It's been a while since our last update. We've been struggling with several issues, but the good news is that the following products are finally at each of our shipping hubs in the EU, AUS, and the US, primed for mass shipping:

  • Fairytale Games: Battle Royale
  • Fairytale Games: Rumplestiltskin
  • Re-issue Inventory for the
  • Sacred40 Miniatures
  • Dragon Tides

Specifically for Dragon Tides, we have finished shipping to AUS. By next week, we hope to hear from the warehouse on when shipping can begin for US/CAN, and finally followed by EU/Other Countries. We're extremely excited that things are finally getting over the bottleneck.

FOR DRAGON TIDES ONLY

If you have any address concerns, please send them immediately to [email protected]. I'm having Jack from our team go through them to avoid a mass pileup of emails from other campaigns. Please only direct Dragon Tides questions to Jack's email.

Also if you noticed, our website (www.artisticjusticegames.com) has been flaky these past couple of weeks. This is because we are switching hosts and taking this opportunity to update information on our site. So if you frequent our site, keep in mind that it'll start going crazy until everything is finally updated.

Another thing is that we've received a lot of comments about is that our updates are way too lengthy. My stubbornness to hoard information until I can do very wordy updates, has finally been humbled. We'll focus on the frequency of updates and less novel writing hereon out.

I also want to start providing PNP versions of our stretch goal content for you to try out once you have your core games. Mainly, just as we've begun doing with our Fairytale Games items, I'd like to enlist your help with proof reading. It would mean a lot to us and will help us produce a more solid game experience.

And when you start receiving your games, please share here, on BGG and let us know what you think!

Dragon Tides Fulfillment Begins!
about 9 years ago – Mon, Nov 23, 2015 at 04:16:21 PM

Hi Everyone! Looks like backers from overseas have started receiving their copies of Dragon Tides. From what we've heard from Greenbrier Games, our Australia hub is in the process of distribution now and our EU hub will be coming shortly since it's currently processing now. A concern that was mentioned was if there would be any hold ups at customs for EU. Fortunately, after a previous hard lesson learned, we did our Child Safety tests ahead of time so that the "CE" icon on our boxes wouldn't prevent the games from entering the country officially. Currently, we're awaiting news about the US hubs. I'm really excited about that since I don't even personally have a copy to demo anymore and would love to get a video for your going sometime soon.

For anyone who receives Dragon Tides, please post pictures, thoughts, and more importantly let us know on these comment threads where you're from when you receive it. It's a great way for all of us to share your excitement and get a better idea of how the distribution is going. I understand the goal was to get them all fulfilled by the New Year, though there currently isn't any guarantee from the shipping/fulfillment centers Greenbrier Games is working with, which makes hard dates impossible to pin down.

For those of you who attended BGG, I hope you had a chance to play a game or two of Dragon Tides at the Greenbrier Games both. I wasn't able to attend this year but from what I heard, we were represented well.

And if you are just chiming in for the first time in a long while, this shipment is for the Dragon Tides core game only.

As mentioned, Greenbrier Games has taken the lead in helping us with the shipping and fulfillment though I want to clarify the products they are helping us deliver, to ensure that questions that come their way only pertain to items they are currently responsible for:

  • Sacred40 Miniatures
  • Sacred40 Miniatures Re-Issues
  • Fairytale Games: Battle Royale (core game)
  • Fairytale Games: Rumplestiltskin
  • Dragon Tides (core game)

This includes anyone who had missing packages from the initial shipping wave of the Sacred40 miniatures and those with missing boxes or damaged parts. They are not responsible for the fulfillment of any other product or additional expansion/promo/stretch goal content unless otherwise noted. So if you have any questions of any of the above items, please contact Tony at [email protected]

For gameplay questions, we welcome questions on these comment threads or on BGG (Both Luther Bell Hendricks and Kevin G. Nunn sometimes visit our BGG threads so you might get a chance to pick their brains on Dragon Tides on ruling or game design if you post a question there).

As we get more information, we'll let you know! I intend to make myself much more accessible on all of our kickstarter pages while releasing the team to handle further production and e-mail responsibilities. (Which should fix our communication issue that's been our biggest weak point at the moment).

Can't wait to hear about more games being received!
